Evidence from the State of Health in the EU Country Profiles: Making health systems more resilient after the COVID-19 pandemic

The COVID-19 pandemic produced a shock to European health systems that were specific to the crisis but also exacerbated pre-existing challenges that undermine the good performance of health systems. Drawing on the evidence gathered from the State of Health in the EU (SoHEU) Country Health Profiles and the European Commission’s accompanying Companion report, launched in Dec 2021, the session Evidence from the State of Health in the EU Country Profiles: Making health systems more resilient after the COVID-19 pandemic hosted by the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies will focus on two key areas in which health systems can build stronger and more resilient health systems:

  • locking in the advantages of digital innovation in healthcare delivery to ensure access;
  • rethinking health workforce strategies and planning after the COVID-19 pandemic.

The session will also provide insights into a new resilience testing method that is being developed by the SoHEU partners.

Join this session on Thursday, 16 June from 10.00 to 11.15 CET with the esteemed speakers:

  • Ms Anna Sagan, Research Fellow, European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies; London School of Economics and Political Science, UK
  • Mr Gaetan Lafortune, Senior Economist, OECD Health Division, France
  • Mr Federico Pratellesi, Policy Officer, DG SANTE, European Commission, Belgium

The session will be moderated by Dr Josep Figueras, Director, European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies, Belgium.
